Build Your First Sweater: Adventurous Knitter Workshop
Ready to take your knitting skills to the next level? This workshop is perfect for knitters who have mastered the basics (you know your knits from your purls and aren’t afraid of a little shaping). We’ll guide you through the process of making your very own simple sweater or cardigan — a timeless wardrobe piece you’ll actually be proud to say, “I made this!”
Choose your own adventure, by creating a cardigan or a pull over sweater. You can start small with a newborn-size project to learn the techniques without the time commitment, or dive right in and cast on a size for yourself (patterns range from newborn to 6XL). Whether you're knitting for a new baby, a cozy sweater for you, or anyone in between, you'll walk away with confidence in sweater construction, understanding sizing, and finishing techniques.
You’ll Learn:
-
Reading and understanding sweater patterns
-
Basic bottom up garment construction
-
Shaping (increases, decreases)
-
Seaming and finishing
- Knitting in the round
-
Tips for fit, sizing, and modifications
Prerequisites: This is an intermediate-level class. You must be comfortable with casting on, knitting, purling, and basic stitch patterns. (No sweater experience necessary — that's what we're here for!)
Bring your yarn, needles, and curiosity. We’ll bring the know-how and encouragement.
DATES: November 3 & 17, plus December 1 & 15
6pm to 8pm
Your series fee includes the sessions listed above, and the pattern, from Tin Can Knits, which will be emailed directly to you, in advance of the class. Materials are not included. Use the pattern to determine the quantity of worsted weight yarn required. Choose from acrylic or wool, accordingly. Students recieve a 20% discount off class materials purchased in the shop.
This is not a learn to knit session. Students must know how to cast on and off, knit and purl prior to the first session.
